Highlights from October 21, 2006 Board Meeting at Jackson's Mill

• WVCA has regained its individual entity status.
• Thank you letters were sent to the National organizations and individuals who helped in this process on behalf of the WVCA Board of Directors and Membership.
• Our webmaster, Marilyn Smith was congratulated on her outstanding accomplishment of not only regaining our old website domain and giving it a fresh new look, but she has also created what we hope will become a statewide bulletin board concerning counseling information. We all shared cake.
• Virginia Robson was to be honored at our November conference; however, she died. So instead, we have created a memorial on our website to honor her work and memory.
• Membership Certificates and wallet-size membership cards have been created for the membership. Most of you may have already received yours. Give us some feedback on this. Send comments to pres@wvcounseling.org.
• Executive Director of ACA and other National ACA Reps have okayed our offering for the Division of West Virginia Licensed Professional Counselors ( DWVLPC ) and the Division of West Virginia School Counselors Association ( DWVSCA ).
• Jane Turner has been working feverishly on updating our West Virginia Counseling. Association Leadership Manual. They will be distributed at the November conference.
• A calendar that displays WV counselors was discussed. Plans are being made to complete this project. It will be a collectors' item.
• In order to communicate with the membership and to recruit members the use of e-mail and snail mail was discussed. We will attempt to inform membership of WVCA business by e-mail ( where we have the e-mail addresses ), phone calls where appropriate, and monthly postcards.
• A brief discussion involved the ACA Southern Region Conference held in Huntsville, Alabama.
• A brief discussion also involved the planned conference at Flatwoods, WV for the first week of November in 2006.
• A call for a May '07 Ethics conference was suggested. Planning session volunteers requested. Kitty Palausky adamantly confirmed that WVCCA will continue to cosponsor this conference.
• Marilyn Smith and Debbie Dugger are planning an Eastern Region Conference for Friday, 17 Nov '06 in Martinsburg, WV.
• Virginia Loew-Shelhammer was an invited guest speaker. She represented a National organization promoting Christian Counseling for the state of WV.
