Highlights from July 21, 2007 Board meeting in Morgantown

Those in attendance:  Dan Henderson, Mike Fike, Ted Williams, Gene Defabio, Virginia Loew-Shelhammer, Peggy Lewis, Violette Eash, Marilyn Smith, Leigh-Ann Brewer.

  • Mike Fike gave the financial report of WVCA.  This report included activities involved in and concluding with the first year of our regained organizational independence. 
  • Mike Fike, Ted Williams, and Dan Henderson held a meeting Fri 13 July 2007 in Flatwoods to discuss the coming year’s finances.  This proposed budget was presented to the board for discussion.  There will be a final vote by membership on this proposed budget during the 2007 Fall conference. 
  • President Dan Henderson gave a synopsis of WVCA’s activities and growth percentages for the last 12 months; some surprising numbers were shared with the board. 
  • President-Elect Violette Eash discussed plans for WVCA’s 2008 Fall conference. 
  • Eastern Region Director, Marilyn Smith reported that they held a spring conference on Fri 1 June 2007.  They were pleasantly surprised by the abundance of participants.
  •  Amendments were proposed for some of WVCA’s bylaws.  A ‘ membership vote’ will be held during our Oct 2007 conference.
  • WV College Counseling Association’s President, Ted Williams, was recognized and honored for his Many years of dedicated service to WVCA.  He received a    t-shirt displaying the sentiment ‘ Mr. WVCA ’.  Ted also received some ‘ gag ’ gifts in respect of his well known sense of humor. 
  • Ted Williams stated that WVCCA would like to co-sponsor a spring conference with WVCA in 2008. 
  • Gene Defabio, President of WV Career Development Association is becoming recognized as an energetic and enthusiastic leader.  He has been collecting data on careers, electronic resources, community involvement, job fairs, disability mentoring day, etc to share with our membership. 
  • The next WVCA Board Meeting is scheduled for Sat 13 Oct 2007 at WVCA’s annual fall conference.
